My last Szechuan Sauce

21 May

UntitledI’m not sure why I feel sort of melancholy about this sauce.   About the whole “Rick and Morty / McDonald’s” fiasco.

The sauce itself was good….not fantastic or anything.

BUT….the fact that a comedy bit…from a cartoon… could bring this back from the dead….then get national attention for everything that went wrong…and boy did it…. is nothing short of amazing.     Pop Culture is an incredible thing.   It’s the real sauce that binds us all.   More companies should take notice.

FRITOS – SPICY JALAPENO

16 May

UntitledAnyone reading this can email me and explain to me exactly WHY…..I never tried these before now?

wow….are these addictive.   Love them and I am a complete idiot for taking so long to discover this low-key-yet-kick-ass flavor.   Simple and effective.

7-11 – Locally Made Meals – Chicken Parm

11 May

UntitledIf you read JFC on any regular basis, and why wouldn’t you?…. you know we love THE SEV.   So hearing that they were coming out with their own line of “grab-n-go” locally prepared meals…we gots excited y’all!

And nervous….I mean let’s get real…this could go either way.

Once I heard that Chicken Parm was one of the choices, then I was super-curious…was it possible to make a heat-n-eat Chicken Parm that I could eat sitting on the curb at the Sev…and be happy with it?

Here goes…..

I wasn’t totally shocked but I was pleasantly surprised how GOOD it was.   I mean you have to keep in mind…you are getting this from a convenience store at any given moment.  I have certainly had worse frozen dinners…and I can think of a couple of Italian restaurants that wishes their chicken parm was this good.  For Five Bucks??? nice.

I got to give it to The Sev for stepping up their game on something like this.   There are FOURTEEN different dishes available at any one time.

The ONLY problem I see with this is marketing.   The Sev, for whatever reason, has chosen to use one of the Dallas Cowboys as their spokesperson for this here locally.   No football player is going to appeal to my sense of convenience or give something like “grab-n-go” food a chance.  EVER.

I would hate to see such a great idea fall to the wayside due to the fact that NOBODY has heard that it’s available or they stumbled with the ad campaign.   The chicken parm…at least…is worth a try.

DORITOS – CRUNCH NUTS

9 May

UntitledUh…I like the name.  The box is unique too.  Inside are basically….follow me now…Doritos covered peanuts.

I’m not lying.   Somehow they managed to put a thin and tiny shell of Doritos corn chip on peanuts- wow!!!!!

YEAH, YEAH, YEAH…. so…how they taste?

Well they are kinda cool at first crunch..it’s like wow….nacho cheese…

…then just peanut.  That shell immediately disappears and you are left with just peanuts.

Swing….and a miss…..

ARBY’S – CHICKEN PEPPERONI – PARM SANDWICH

11 Oct

UntitledWOW. This.  Is.  Special.   Arby’s you did it this time!

This is the best sammich I have ever had from Arby’s.  It’s sooooo good.

If it was just a chicken parm sammich I would be happy…but just the simple addition of some deli slice pepperoni takes this to the next level.  It’s for a limited time..so go get it FAST….oh lawd…..it’s so good…

McDONALD’s – SWEET BBQ CHICKEN

14 Aug

UntitledThe full name of this sammich is the “Sweet BBQ Bacon Buttermilk Crispy Chicken” sammich.   That is one hell of a name.  I shortened it to …..

“Uh…can I get that BBQ chicken-wing-ding sammich?”

“Sorry…what you say?”

“Uh… can I get the crispy bacon with chicken BBQ sammich?”

“uhhhhh yeah…….sure.”

SHADDUP already and tell me how it tastes funny-jerk!

Okay, I can’t believe I am going to say this, but this is the BEST thing I have ever eaten at a Mickey D’s.    Yeah.  I said it.

You know I am not that big of fan of their food anymore – but this sammich has all the flavor and textures and just all-around-indulgence that you want from a fast food place.

I loved this damn sammich and I am not afraid to admit it!

BURGER KING – CHICKEN PARM SAMMICH

8 Aug

Untitled“We have sorta been here before…..”

That’s my thoughts as I am sitting here in the drive-thru at the BK.

A few years ago, they slapped some cheese and sauce on their oblong chicken sammich and called it done.

It was barely okay.  Just barely.  This looks like a revamp and serious attempt at a proper chicken parm sammich.

UntitledDid I mention I love chicken parm sammiches???  Cause I totally do.

I have been a big fan of BK for so long…I want them to have a win….and I say that because I have been less than impressed with them for the last several years.

That being said, this is probably the best item I have had at a BK in years.    The bun is soft, the sauce is tangy, the two cheeses bring texture and flavor, and the chicken is crispy and crunchy.   It’s a great little sammich.

And that is what bothers me.   It feels like it doesn’t live up to the $5 dollar price tag.  At $4 I would love it.   But it’s smaller than a whopper and feels like I am spending alot on a little.    Still good tho.   Check it out and report back below!
