WING RUN – FIERY WINGS

9 Aug

UntitledI have made NO BONES about how much I love the wings from WING RUN.  The fact that they are inside Mazzio’s Pizza (which I also love) makes it a double-trouble restaurant.   Do I get pizza?  Do I get wings?

Answer is usually : yes.

So on my last visit -( this time, Tulsa OK) I was surprised to see they have some new flavors.  The one shown here is called “Fiery Wings”.

I have had “MACH FOUR” (their hottest) so I was curious about these.  I got some boneless and was ready to chow-down.

These have some good flavor – the heat creeps up…but it’s more of your basic buffalo style….that pepper and slight butter flavor.  The sauce was also super-thick too.  Almost like a paste over a sauce.   These are good and I would order them again – BUT….you know I love Lemon Pepper and Mach Four…so I would probably think to get those first.  My two faves!!!

DAREDEVIL BONLESS WYNGZ – GARLIC PARMESAN

30 Mar

UntitledNow you KNOW I LOVES me some wings.  Bone-in, bone-out, bone-less, bone-whatever.   One of the great flavors for wings is Garlic Parmesan…so when I saw these in the freezer at Walmart I was interested.

Two trays of microwaveable “wyngz” with “kicker” sauce if I want it extra spicy?   Hmmmmm…..go on.

Well fresh from my microwave these were NOT good.  They were soggy and chewy and did I say NOT good already?

Having most of my afternoon free, I decided to go ahead and fire-up the oven and cook these suckers ol’ fashion style….and that result was way better…duh.

I enjoyed the flavor of the kicker packets and the garlic parm sauce as well.  I would for sure buy these again…but I would never microwave them again.   woof.

WINGSTOP – SMOKE 9 WINGS

28 Mar

UntitledMy tastes are ever-evolving when it comes to wing flavors.  Wingstop has debuted a new flavor that I like called SMOKE 9.   It’s exactly what you might think…a smoky…bbq-y…slightly pepper-y…dry rub type flavor.

Not a total dry rub though, as you can see.  It’s good but it’s missing a note…like maybe a sweetness?

And then it hits me.  These sort of taste like a more smoky version of the Nashville Hot Chicken from KFC.

Now whether that is intended or by accident, if you know about both, it’s undeniable.    KFC has them just by a hair on the flavor…but of course Wingstop has them on the quality of the chicken and it’s flavor.  Comparison aside it’s still very good…..but I am still waiting for Wingstop to bring back their best flavor ever….the Serrano Pepper Glaze…oh how I miss that sauce!!!

WINGSTREET – Garlic Parmesan

13 Jul

UntitledPizza Hut was so smart for starting up WingStreet all those years ago.   They saw a trend coming and they rode the wave all the way to shore.  Bone-in / Bone-out / you name it and they will give it to ya.

In the past I have tried their wings and sauces and never found one that I truly fell in love with.

Today was no exception.   Garlic Parmesan is a favorite flavor at many wing joints so I figured it was a solid choice.    What I got was some pretty decent bone-out pieces of chicken…with some parm cheese shook on them….followed by a heavy dousing in what seemed to be some sort of salad dressing or something.    It’s a light and creamy type sauce that just weighed down and made the crispy crusts on the chicken pieces turn soggy.  Real quick.  I managed to separate the pieces into the other side of the container and salvage half the order.   Again, like the chicken, haven’t found a sauce yet.   The search continues.

KFC HOT WINGS

13 Apr

UntitledSo you KNOW I love me some Hot Wings.   If ya didn’t know, now you know.  Dig it?

The other day I am at KFC and I remember they serve hot wings.   It has been a LONG time since I have had them.   I believe the last time was when they were the Honey BBQ wings and I loved them because they were so rich and sticky-sweet and bbq-y…just a big ol’ mess of goodness.

I didn’t see the Honey BBQ anymore on the menu (of course) so I ordered your basic wings.   What you see is what I got.    At first I figured they messed up the order – those look like big boneless wings.    But no, it is indeed, their hot wings.

Under all that crunch and breadding is some heat but not much actual chicken.   I was sort of wishing I had just ordered some regular sized pieces of chicken and used some hot sauce.    They were decent but not very satisfying.  I was sort of surprised by this actually.
