DOLE BANANA DIPPERS

26 Sep

UntitledOh….my….lord…are these instantly addictive.   WOO!!

It’s such a deceptively simple idea.  Frozen banana slices in dark chocolate with some almond pieces on top.   Four slices to a bag.  These frozen bites are sooooo good.   Banana and dark chocolate are a fantastic flavor blend as it is, but those almonds really do kick it up a bit.  My new favorite snack!!

TINY TOAST

31 Aug

UntitledTiny Toast.   These represent everything cool about cereal.  It’s a super-simple concept, has a fun shape, is easily recognizable, and has fruit flavor….all the hallmarks of a legendary cereal in the making.   I loved the hell out of both of these.  They are highly snackable (both in and out of a bowl of milk) and they have nice little burst of fruit flavor.   I especially dug the Blueberry.  Slightly reminded me of my beloved BooBerry cereal…which is only available during Halloween..so…..booyah.

From what I read, cereal is on the decline. Kids are eating healthier (probably not by choice) so the “kiddie” cereals we all grew up with might fade away one day.  I hope not.  The whole concept of Tiny Toast is a callback to a simpler time.  When all you needed was a bowl of cereal and a four-hour cartoon block of Tom and Jerry to be happy.

JACK IN THE BOX PANKO ONION RINGS

23 Aug

UntitledI am so damn late to the posting this.  I don’t know what happened.  I guess I lost the photo or got drunk.  It could happen.

Anyway these Panko (panko is a Japanese breadcrumb that makes things crunchier than normal breadcrumbs) Onion Rings are the BOMB. They may be my favorite thing Jack makes nowadays.  They are so thick and crunchy/crispy.   Sooooooo good.  If you love onion rings, these are your new mistress.

ARBY’S MEATBALL SAMMICH

22 Aug

Arby's Meatball SubYeah.  I said sammich.  I said meatball sammich and Arby’s in the same sentence.

It’s a happening.   You know Arby’s has the meats..and now that includes balls.

And you know what?  It’s a pretty damn good sammich.  I was surprised.  It is HUGE and comes on a tender and soft bun that just soaks up that sauce. That sauce isn’t overly seasoned or anything, just a nice tomato-y sauce covered in some provolone cheese on top of four big-boy meatballs.   This thing fills you up with the quickness.   I am not sure who Arby’s is going after with this sammich, but if I was SUBWAY, I would be worried.  It destroys Subway’s meatball sammich.  Like, for real.

HI-C ECTO COOLER RETURNS!!

19 Aug

UntitledWow….twice in one week an infamous pop-culture food item returns to the shelves.

Oh HI-C….and your ECTO – COOLER.   Nostalgia is a wonderful drug.   This product was out in the late 80’s and lasted until 2001 and was discontinued.   Fans have been raging against the machine for its return..but without any tie to a Ghostbusters product….Hi-C didn’t see the point.   Bad move, that.

Flash forward to the news of a NEW Ghostbusters movie…and Hi-C got smart and announced they would reissue ECTO-COOLER!!!!!!   That time is now.

….AND…..it’s just like I remember. It’s citrus-y sweet and such a neon green I feel like it could glow in the dark.  It’s a perfect step back in time to when Ghostbusting was easier and Bobby Brown was a mainstay on the radio.

And bonus….that neon-y, orange-tangerine, super drink makes a perfect mixer for adult beverages. Just saying…last night the JFC crew got SLIMED on this stuff!!!

ARBY’S BUFFALO CHICKEN SLIDER

9 Aug

UntitledArby’s “Has the meats” or so they keep telling me.  Honestly I don’t live near one so I don’t eat there much….but… now I got a reason to…. Buffalo.  Chicken.  Slider.  woo.

You know I loves me chicken.  Loves me spicy/buffalo chicken more so.

Currently at Arby’s you can get a buffalo chicken slider for $1.00.   It’s basically a chicken strip on a bun with a “parmesan peppercorn ranch” sauce (that I politely declined) smeared in there for added flavor.

What I received was a super-soft mini-hoagie-like bun with a chicken strip absolutely dripping in buffalo sauce – a very good-but-wish-it-was-hotter-buffalo sauce.

I only got one and it was gone in a couple of minutes and I wished I had ordered about six of them.  I enjoyed them that much…..and of course they are only around for a limited time.

CHICK-FIL-A – BBQ Blues

5 Aug

UntitledI love CFA.  Love love love it.  One of the things I love about it is their BBQ sauce.  It is tangy and sweet and different than every other ‘cue sauce out there.  Very light and unique…..and now they have discontinued it.

After it being one of their staple flavors ever since I could remember…they have dumped it for a new “Smokehouse BBQ”.

uh…..crap….another key food component of my upbringing is gone away….

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, cry-baby…so how does the NEW sauce taste???

Actually it’s pretty damn awesome!!   It’s an instant favorite and something that would eat on more than just CFA items.  This is the kind of ‘cue sauce I would buy in a bottle if available.  It has all the classic flavors you would expect from a great sauce.

I honestly wish they would have kept both, though.  I have a few original bbq sauces left over that I am now rationing….but when it’s over…I guess I can survive and move forward….but I am gonna miss that pineapple-y..sweet ‘cue of yesterday.

OLIVE GARDEN – Grilled Chicken Piadina

2 May

UntitledI hate the name but I LOVE the dish.

It’s essentially an Italian Quesadilla and I thought it was going to be pretty lame but I was totally surprised by how well the ingredients came together.   Chicken, basil, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, and an Italian cheese sauce….with a side of marinara for dipping.   Loved it!!!!   Olive Garden is back on my good side for a little while.

CHURCH’S LEMON DROP BISCUIT BITES

25 Apr

UntitledI love just about anything lemon flavored.

So while sitting in the drive-thru at Church’s I said to myself…self…needs to try these…

They are very light, crumbly, and have a nice little lemon-y glaze to them….and then I realize this is a donut hole basically.   I feel tricked by the name.

But damn, they were still pretty tasty!

WINGSTOP – SMOKE 9 WINGS

28 Mar

UntitledMy tastes are ever-evolving when it comes to wing flavors.  Wingstop has debuted a new flavor that I like called SMOKE 9.   It’s exactly what you might think…a smoky…bbq-y…slightly pepper-y…dry rub type flavor.

Not a total dry rub though, as you can see.  It’s good but it’s missing a note…like maybe a sweetness?

And then it hits me.  These sort of taste like a more smoky version of the Nashville Hot Chicken from KFC.

Now whether that is intended or by accident, if you know about both, it’s undeniable.    KFC has them just by a hair on the flavor…but of course Wingstop has them on the quality of the chicken and it’s flavor.  Comparison aside it’s still very good…..but I am still waiting for Wingstop to bring back their best flavor ever….the Serrano Pepper Glaze…oh how I miss that sauce!!!
