UntitledThis news is maddening.   Seriously I am borderline furious right now.

EL CHICO in Irving has closed.   What I am reading is that because of the highway expansion they are shutting down.

Irving not having an EL CHICO is like Irving not having the cowboys…okay waitaminute.  Bad example.

But I can NOT imagine an Irving without that place.  EL CHICO is a local business that has achieved much success in smaller towns like Irving and to see it go seems almost criminal.   To just up and leave?

Could they not just relocated to another spot in Irving where people could continue to enjoy those classic family recipes??   I know there is no shortage of mexican restaurants in Irving but come on…this is EL CHICO we are talking about here!!  I lose Crystal’s pizza two years ago and now this?

Great blog. I’m from Arlington myself, so it’s nice to have a bit of local flair to my foodie website repertoire. Keep up the good work!

The owner had intended on relocating within the same shopping center. Union Gospil was suppose to give up part of their location for El Chico. Originally they had been in the back corner in the 80s.
Since El Chico is franchised its hard to say where the snag happened on finding a new place.
There is no word if there is any continuing progress
